Prep Roundup: Sikeston volleyball falls to Jackson

JACKSON (SMNS) -- The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs volleyball team remain winless following Tuesday's match against Jackson.

Jackson's Chelsea Fowler had seven kills and six digs as the Lady Bulldogs fell in two sets, 25-13 and 25-13, on the road.

Autumn Reid nailed four kills and served seven aces, while McKinzie Scott dished out five assists for Jackson (5-8-3). Jackson also won the junior varsity contest 25-19, 25-13.

Dexter 2, Richland 0

ESSEX (SMNS) -- The Dexter varsity volleyball team improved to 4-0 in SCAA regular season play Tuesday night with a 25-8, 25-8, win at Richland.

Dexter tallied 24 of its points on kills and eight on aces.

Shyann Jines led Dexter in aces with three. Alyssa Spear and Jessica Lindsey each added two more. Delaney Pullen tallied one ace.

Lindsey had a team-high eight kills. Jines had five kills. Ashlyn Werneck and Delaney Pullen calculated three kills.

Julia Hahn had a team-high 11 assists for Dexter.

Dexter won the junior varsity game against Richland 25-11, 25-14.

Dexter (16-3) will try to remain perfect in SCAA play when it returns to action Thursday when it hosts Bell City.

Oran 2, Scott City 0

ORAN -- The Oran Lady Eagles easily handled Scott City in two sets Tuesday, 25-11 and 25-12. Oran has a record of 3-4-2 so far this season.

TENNIS

Notre Dame 5, Dexter 4

DEXTER (SMNS) -- The Notre Dame varsity girls tennis team outlasted Dexter 5-4 Tuesday afternoon in a marathon match that lasted over three hours.

Notre Dame, which beat Dexter 9-0 in the first meeting between the two clubs, trailed Dexter 2-1 after the completion of doubles play Tuesday. Dexter (8-3) could meet Notre Dame again in its district tournament in two weeks.

FALL BASEBALL

Risco 14, Southland 0

SOUTHLAND -- Backed by a combined no hitter from Brandon Bixler and Drew Fortner the Risco Tigers thumped host Southland on Tuesday 14-0 in five innings via the mercy rule.

Risco jumped on top with a five run rally in the top of the first inning before adding another run in the second. A pair of four-run rallies in the third and fourth frames made up the final.

Using wood bats in the contest the Tigers combined for 13 hits with six Risco batters contributing two hits to their team's effort.

Jordon Pavy was 2 for 5 with a double and three RBI while Bixler and Josh Earnheart each had two hits, including a double. Earnheart also drove in a pair of runs.

Fortner, Eric Bennett and Cody Cullom each had a pair of singles.

In their no-hit effort Bixler went three innings where he allowed two walks and struck out six. Fortner pitched the final two frame and struck out two.

Now at 3-9 on the year, Risco will host Delta C-7 Friday at 4 p.m.
