CHARLESTON -- For a career as long and storied as that of Charleston head coach Danny Farmer's, plenty of milestones have come along the way.

Not the least of which is the seven state titles he's accrued in his time helming the Scott County Central girls' program and his current position as coach of the Bluejays.

On Tuesday Farmer added the latest feat to his resume, recording his 600th career win in an 80-33 rout of the visiting Dexter Bearcats.

"I wasn't aware of that, but it's great," Farmer said of the milestone. "I don't keep up with that, I just go out and take it one game at a time. I've been doing this for a long time, that's all that means. I'm thrilled and pleased with it."

With a dominant start Charleston made sure the win was never in question, holding the Bearcats (0-1) scoreless through the first three minutes of play. All the while the Bluejays connected on their first five shots of the night to open up a 12-0 lead.

By the end of the quarter, Delfincko Bogan racked up 14 points on his way to a game-high 26 to lead the Bluejays to a 30-6 advantage entering the second quarter.

Charleston continued to pressure Dexter and force turnovers the final eight minutes of the half before taking a 31-point lead, at 49-18, into the break.

"We came out and tried to play their game from the very start," Bearcats' head coach Rob Nichols said. "We talked for two weeks about being patient and establishing a half-court game and not trying to run up and down with them. From the very beginning they set us up in the full court. We had open looks, I wouldn't say some of them were bad shots, but you can't play their pace if those shots aren't going down."

Another 12 points from Bogan in the third quarter helped Charleston score 10-straight points to open the second half as part of a 17-5 run in the first five minutes of the third.

By the start of the fourth the Bluejays pushed their advantage to a more than comfortable 45 points, at 74-29, before waiting out the turbo-clocked win.

"We wanted to come out and even with a big lead we wanted to keep on playing hard," Farmer said. "Because we have to develop a killer instinct and that's what it was about tonight. We wanted to play hard with an aggressive effort."

As a team the Bluejays shot 31 of 51 from the field (60.8 percent) while going 23 of 33 from inside the arc (69.7 percent).

Bogan shot 10 of 13 from the floor and added six steals and three assists to his effort while going 4 of 5 at the free throw line.

Shandor Webster was an equally impressive 8 of 11 from the field on his way to 20 points, three steals and three rebounds. Demontrail Clark was the third Bluejay in double-digits with 11 points.

Though his team had a solid night offensively, Farmer credits his team's defense and its 19 steals with putting the game away early.

"We kind of figured we could do to (Dexter) what we did to Covington last weekend," Farmer said. "Put some pressure on them and keep their scoring down low and we scored some off our defense.

"Last year we had a bunch of shooters and all of that, but our strength this season is our defense."

Now at 2-1 on the season Charleston will take a week off before entering this year's SEMO Conference Tournament as more of an underdog than year's past.

After coming in as the top-seed last season they'll start play Monday as the fourth-seed against fifth-seed Notre Dame.

"I agree with what everybody is saying that it's a bunch of parity," Farmer said of this year's tournament field. "We just want to go in there and take it one game at a time."
