SIKESTON -- The Sikeston eighth grade basketball team improved to 4-0 on the season with a 57-51 victory over Charleston.

Sikeston rallied from a 25-point third quarter deficit to pull out the win.

Charleston led 16-11 after one quarter and held a 32-20 lead going into halftime.

The Bluejays extended the lead to 45-20, but Sikeston went on a 20-1 run to cut the lead to 46-40 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Bulldogs went on to out-score Charleston 17-5 in the fourth quarter to pull out the win.

"It's great to see the team never quit even when facing such a huge deficit," Sikeston coach Derek James said. "I don't think I've had a team come back from that type of deficit but you really have to hand it to the boys. They never panicked and they kept fighting to get back in the game."

Sikeston was led by Fred Thatch's 27 points, 20 of which came in the second half.

Austin Branch followed up with 13 points.

Sikeston plays at NMCC tomorrow.
