BENTON -- A Sikeston-area man is facing charges after discharging a firearm at his home.

Timothy Jarvis, 37, of rural Sikeston is charged with the crime of unlawful use of weapon.

At 11 p.m. Friday, Sgt. Justin Wooten and Deputy Chelsea Gilmer went to an address in Oran to meet with a man and a woman concerning an incident that happened earlier in the evening. According to Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter, the couple told the deputies Jarvis had argued with the man while they were at a bar earlier in the evening. They said they all went to the Jarvis residence so that they could pick up their juvenile son and leave.

The couple stated while at the residence, Jarvis discharged one shot from a handgun into the ground near their son and debris struck him in the ear. They said the juvenile was not injured but was scared.
