Help and be helped

This message is for the man from Morley. I live in a town with 300 people. Back when we had over 700 people, we also had quite a few businesses that paid sales tax. Now we have one business, a grocery store. The Morley man either needs to go to the town meetings or go and get on the town board and see how the city is run. Then you will see why your city cannot afford snow removal equipment. Your tax base is nowhere near Cape Girardeau or Jackson. That is how they can afford snow removal. Before you complain, do what one great president said, "Ask what you can do for your government, not what your government can do for you." If you don't like it there in Morley, you can always move.

The deal on paying my bill

I went down to BMU at the drive-thru to pay my bill this morning. I did not have my bill with me because our street has been shutdown and our mail has been undeliverable for the last week. I told the girl that I did not have my account number and she told me that if I didn't have my account number, I would have to go inside. She would not look it up for me at the drive-thru. I told her I was handicapped and could not walk. She said that I still had to go inside so they could look it up. She would not look it up for me at the drive-thru. I pulled around to the side of the building, looked at those steps and the sidewalk, and I'm sorry to say I couldn't walk up them. I just had to come back home. I don't think this is a very good policy for handicapped people, and I think they should have the courtesy to let you at least go ahead and pay your bill. I was just trying to give them their money.

Even though both lanes of the drive in window were backed up at the time, even though we have many signs that say if you don't have your bill you have to come in, even though BMU has installed every disability access required, our sincere apology to you. We should have been more thoughtful at the time and met you outside with a helping hand. BMU employees will strive to be more customer oriented in the future. I promise. --Ed Throop

Take this snow and shove it

I'm calling on behalf of Hinton Park Drive. The landlord out there needs to do something about the road when it comes ice or snow. Every month he wants his lot rent on time. But in order to get his lot rent on time, he needs to be a little more attentive. Maybe if we all get together and protest, we can get something done. He needs to clean the roads when they are bad.
