EAST PRAIRIE - Gretchen Hanlin, a junior at East Prairie High School, recently received an invitation from the Dean of the Stanford School of Law to attend the 10-day Intensive Law & Trial summer program.

"Students in this intensive program get a chance to step into the roles of prosecutor and defense counsel in a challenging mock trial," said Andrew Potter, chief academic officer for Envision and Intensive Law & Trial. "They learn what it takes to be a 21st century attorney, deepen their appreciation of the legal field and explore academic and career options at a top-ranked school."

Scholars will stay on the Stanford University campus and learn the foundation of law from legal professionals. Also students will get firsthand practice using essential legal skills such as making opening and closing argument,s preparing cases and readying witnesses for cross examination.

One of the top students (academically) in her class, Hanlin is a varsity cheerleader and is actively involved in Nelson Memorial United Methodist Church. She also works part-time at Beauton Drugs in East Prairie.

Hanlin said she plans to attend law school and become an attorney. She is currently seeking sponsors to help with the funds necessary to take part in this opportunity. Anyone interested in assisting her with this goal should contact Cyndi Norton at telephone number 573-649-5243.
