Wheeler, Stevens tied for eighth after first day of state golf tournament

BOLIVAR -- Sikeston's Gabe Wheeler and Dexter's Ethan Stevens are tied for eighth after the first day of the Class 3 state championship tournament Monday at Silo Ridge Golf Course in Bolivar.
Each golfer sits at four-over 76 and is five strokes behind the tournament leader, Nevada's John Quitno, who's at one-under 71.
This is Wheeler's fourth appearance in the state golf tournament after a third-place finish last year.
As a team, Sikeston is last out of eight with a combined score of 359. They are 21 strokes behind seventh-place Sullivan. Blake Below is tied for 38th with an 82, Clark Atchison is tied at 57th with an 85 and Luke Blanton is 95th with a 116.
