Two Zalma residents killed in fiery crash

ZALMA - Two Bollinger County residents were killed when their vehicle overturned and caught fire.

James R. Wade, 57, and Angela R. Freeman, 49, of Zalma were the 30th and 31st fatalities reported for 2015 in the Troop E area following an accident at 8 p.m. Sunday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol's report, Wade was driving westbound on Route M, just east of Route PP in Stoddard County, when the vehicle ran off the roadway. The vehicle then struck an embankment, overturned and caught fire.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene at 8:30 p.m. by Stoddard County Coroner Aaron Mathis.

The Patrol also investigated a single-vehicle accident on Route N, three miles south of Scott City.

According to the report at 3:10 p.m. Sunday, James R. Legrand, 69, of Benton was driving northbound when his vehicle ran off the roadway and overturned. Legrand, who had moderate injuries, was taken by ambulance to the Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau for treatment.

At 2:40 p.m. Saturday on Highway 51, just north of Arab, two Scott County residents were injured in a single-vehicle accident.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported Mary E. Burgess, 17, of Chaffee was driving northbound when her vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway. The vehicle then struck a culvert.

Burgess, and a passenger in her vehicle, Jordan A. Biggs, 21, of Scott City, were moderately injured. They were taken by private vehicle to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau for treatment.
