Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7183: Eleven receive scholarships

LILBOURN - Eleven high school graduates received scholarships from the New Madrid County Memorial Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 7183. Each scholarship is valued at $1,000.

This year's recipients are:

Heath Babb of Bragg City is a graduate of Delta R-7 High School, where he participated in basketball, baseball, Beta Club and Future Business Leaders of America. The son of Tina Babb, he plans to attend Three Rivers College for two years then transfer to lineman's school.

A graduate of East Prairie High School, Kirstin Bratton is the daughter of Homer and April Bratton. She plans to study radiology at Arkansas State University. While in high school she was a member of Future Teachers of America, the student council, band, choir, twirling team and served as her class treasurer all four years.

A graduate of New Madrid County Central High School, Annie Cook was active in FBLA, Skills USA, student council, FCCLA, speech, drama and debate. The daughter of Robert and Mona Cook, she will study culinary arts at Jefferson College.

Son of Robert and Valerie DeMoss, Matthew DeMoss is a graduate of Ozark High School, where he was a member of the band, National Honor Society, Ozark High School Link Crew and also an active member of the Boy Scouts. He will attend Missouri University of Science and Technology, where he will pursue a degree in civil engineering and minor in engineering management.

The daughter of Trey and Addie Lawfield, Kaitlyn Lawfield plans to study business at Mississippi State University. A graduate of New Madrid County Central High School, she was active in Student Council, Future Business Leaders of America, National Art Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Beta Club.

Garrett Michael Manley, the son of Webb and Leigh Ann Manley, will attend the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and study engineering. While he attended New Madrid County Central High School, Manley was a member of the Student Council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, FBLA, Beta Club, band and a member of the wrestling team.

Alexander McArthur, the son of Emily Revelle, will study actuarial science at Southeast Missouri State University this fall. He is graduate of Lebanon High School, where he took part in band, National Honor Society, Student Council and Project Lead the Way and was a member of the tennis team.

The daughter of Mark and Kim Peel, Sarah Katherine Peel is a graduate of New Madrid County Central High School, where she was a member of the Student Council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Future Business Leaders of America, band and served as the class treasurer her junior and senior years. She plans to major in elementary education at Southeast Missouri State University.

Criminal justice will be the major of Grace Riley while attending Southeast Missouri State University. The daughter of Scott and Pam Riley, she was active in the Student Council, Future Business Leaders of America, Beta Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Art Honor Society and Pep Club.

Brittany Russell is the daughter of Tammy Fowler and a graduate of East Prairie High School, where she took part in FCCLA and Student Council. She will study business administration while attending Missouri State University.

The daughter of Gary and Patricia Whybark, Danielle Whybark plans to study biochemistry as a pre-med major at Missouri State University. The East Prairie High School graduate was active in Beta Club, Science Olympiad, FTA, FBLA, Student Council, band and choir.
