SIKESTON -- Sikeston's mayor is hoping a later start time will put more citizens in the seats for City Council meetings.

Jon Douglass, city manager, said during Monday's regular monthly Council meeting that Mayor Steven Burch suggested giving a 6 p.m. start time a try for a few months "in an effort to make the meetings more convenient for some members of the public to attend who might not get off till 5 p.m."

Council members also agreed to hold "community outreach" meetings instead of the Council's 7 a.m. study sessions on the third Thursday of each month for a few months which, Douglass said, which was also suggested by Burch as a way for the Council to "get out and meet with the public."
