Officers with the Sikeston Department of Public Safety had the opportunity to inspect the Stoddard County Ambulance District's new mass transport vehicle. The vehicle can hold 10 patients on stretchers or 16 walking wounded, according to David Cooper, manager of the ambulance district. Cooper said the vehicle will primarily be used for large event coverage or fire rehab, but also can be used at large-scale accident scenes or in the event of a natural disaster, where multiple patients would need treatment. The vehicle includes high-tech monitoring devices to check patient vital signs as well as oxygen. "We are beefing up our disaster preparedness," said Cooper about the vehicle. "This is an asset not only to our county but the region as well."
