SIKESTON -- The Sikeston Public Library staff is once again getting into the spirit of the season by offering its Fine-Free Weeks.

From now through Dec. 12, for every overdue library item returned in usable condition, patrons can bring in a new toy or nonperishable food item, and the fine will be forgiven.

According to Sue Tangeman, library director, this is a great opportunity for patrons with overdue materials to take advantage of Fine-Free Weeks and help out those less fortunate than themselves at the same time.

Fine-Free Weeks apply to only currently overdue books and cannot be used to forgive the replacement cost of a lost book or for overdue fines from books already checked in, Tangeman said.
