PREP ROUNDUP: Sikeston eases through second Hillsboro Tournament championship

HILLSBORO, Mo. -- For the second straight year the Sikeston girls basketball team are Hillsboro Tournament champions.

The top-seeded Bulldogs (13-3) breezed through No. 7 Hillsboro 54-25 on Saturday in Hillsboro, Mo.

Sikeston held Hillsboro (5-12) to two points in the first quarter and outscored them by 14 points in the second to take a 30-9 lead at halftime. They extended that lead to 50-15 by the end of the third.

Kiera Steward led Sikeston with 10 points. Tyra Bonner, Miranda Harrison and Alana Basham each added eight.

Hillsboro was paced by Cassidy Frank with eight points.

CHARLESTON, Mo. -- The Bluejays raced out to a big lead and never looked back during their annual Coaches vs. Cancer Shootout Saturday in Charleston, Mo.

Charleston (9-6) was the finale of the six-game showcase and led 28-10 by halftime.

Cheyenne Randle led with 14 points while Sharell Woods added 13.

East Prairie (2-10) was led by Bethany Ferrell's six.

In Saturday's previous games, Hayti defeated Scott City 48-41, Greenville took down New Madrid County Central 55-46, Kennett beat Woodland 40-35, Dexter edged Carbondale 57-53 and Poplar Bluff routed Cairo, Ill., 60-30.
