SD ROUNDUP: Kelly softball wins debut, Dexter tennis sweeps Charleston

CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Alyssa Moore and Hailey Noon each had three hits to lead the Hawks to its first win of the season on the road against Chaffee 13-4.

Noon finished 3 for 4 with five RBIs and a triple. Moore went 3 for 5 with a double and three runs scored.

In all, Kelly had 13 hits as a team.

Winning pitcher Alyssa Tidwell gave up four runs (three earned) on 11 hits and one walk after seven innings of work for Kelly (1-0).

Chaffee (0-1) was led by Bridgette Swinford and Carlie Milz who both had three hits. All 11 of Chaffee's hits were singles.

Kylie Wilhite was the losing pitcher after giving up eight earned runs on 13 hits and five walks while striking out five.

Jackson 8, East Prairie 0

JACKSON, Mo. (SMNS) -- Sophomore Sicily Johnston smacked two doubles and batted in four runs as the Indians opened their season with a win at home over the Eagles at Jackson City Park.

Johnston was also the winning pitcher for Jackson (1-0). She threw a complete game and recorded 10 strikeouts and walked one batter.

Sophie Bright added a double and two RBIs for the Indians.

Grace Sutton suffered the loss in the circle for East Prairie (0-1). She pitched a complete game and allowed eight earned runs. She tallied six strikeouts and one walk.

Chanie Moreland produced the lone hit for the Eagles.

VOLLEYBALL

Bernie 2, Sikeston 0

BERNIE, Mo. -- The Sikeston volleyball team lost in straight sets to Bernie on the road Tuesday 25-13, 25-19.

Sikeston (1-1) will be off until Sept. 1, when they host Saxony Lutheran at the Sikeston Field House.

No other information was provided.

Senath-Hornersville 2, Portageville 1

SENATH, Mo. -- Portageville took the first set but fell the last two to the Lions on the road for its first loss of the season.

The Bulldogs (2-1) won the first set 25-22 but dropped the second 19-25 and 17-25.

Portageville will be off until Aug. 29 when they host Malden.

Dexter 9, Charleston 0

DEXTER, Mo. -- The Bearcats swept the visiting Bluejays during their first home match of the season.

Dexter improved to 2-0 on the season and will host Cape Central on Thursday. Charleston (0-1) will travel to Kennett today for its second of three road trips to start the season.
