My Dad told me 50 years ago, he said, "Son, you'll learn that anything the government has to do, they'll mess it up." Now it's 50 years later and he was exactly right. Nothing's changed. The IRS has screwed up. The post office. Can you believe the little town we live in, we can't even get in there to get our mail before 6:30 a.m. and they close at 4 p.m. Why don't they turn it over to UPS and FedEx and let somebody have the money that can handle it?

Hey, Mike. My Sunday paper didn't have any comics to read. I sure missed Dagwood and Blondie, but I'll borrow my neighbor's paper. I thought I'd let you know I didn't get any funnies in my paper. I live on Coffman Street.

I just came from a department store and had a few items. I went to get in the express lane, where it says 20 items or less. But I've noticed, every time I get to an express lane, there are people who have 70 or 80 or up to $200 or more of groceries. That means there are probably 70 or 80 items. I thought these lanes were for the convenience of the people to get in and out. If they're not going to honor it, they need to take the signs down, or better yet, open a few more regular registers.

There must be a lot of people in Sikeston who can't read or can't count, because continuously at a big store here in town, there are people in line with a lot more than 20 items in their carts.

I was wondering what "express" means when you see it at the checkout counters at the stores, where it says "Express lane: 20 items or less" and you're waiting for a lady in front of you to pay for $200 worth of groceries on the 20-items-or-less lane. Please. Express to me what "express lanes" mean.

I just got through reading the Jan. 28 paper. I saw where they were at the stadium saying, "God bless America" and "Bless our veterans." I know we are the stupidest town in the state of Missouri, but you don't have to be very smart to look beyond that and see how Missouri loves their veterans. It took them 25 years to pay off the GI bonuses (if they got it all) back when they erected Bonus Hill on Smith Street. Now it's been 57 years and they still haven't paid the GI's their bonuses. I understand that money goes back into government funds for any GI that died from the time he was out of service until now. So God bless America, but don't God bless Missouri.
