MATTHEWS - Melvin Ray Phillips, 63, died Jan. 4, 2004, at his home.

Born Feb. 2, 1940, in Cash, Ark., son of the late Leonard Lee and Nellie Maud Nicholas Phillips, he had worked for the Missouri Highway Department, Delta Asphalt and Koch Asphalt. He owned LeRay Transportation before retiring five years ago.

On Nov. 24, 1969, he married Phyllis Hunter who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: two brothers, Dean Phillips of Bloomfield and Glenn Phillips of Branson; and one sister, Linda Nelson of Marston.

One brother and one sister preceded him in death.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston where services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Pat Hogan and Johnny Hester, ministers of Shady Acres Church of Christ in Sikeston, will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Bollinger County Memorial Park Cemetery near Marble Hill.

Pallbearers will be: Lovis Condict, Randy Allen, John M. Gardner, Danny Phillips, Larry Phillips, Roy Phillips, Ray Dean Burns and Don Hammock Sr.

Honorary pallbearer will be Jon Hammock.
