Bell City, Dexter go on road and pick up wins

RISCO -- The Bell City Cubs improved their record to 20-3 Friday night with a 71-45 road win over the Risco Tigers.

The Cubs led 19-12 after a quarter and put the game out of reach in the second, leading 44-23 at the half.

"I thought we competed well," said Risco coach Brandon Blankenship. "We got down early in the second quarter but our kids never gave up."

Bell City was led by standout point guard Dominitrix Johnson's 28 points.

"Dominitrix is an excellent player," Blankenship said. "(Bell City's) going to be sitting pretty good when they get a couple of their injured players back."

Risco (9-12) was led in scoring by Kyle Carlisle who had 13 points.

The Tigers will be in action next week when the participate in the Tri-County tournament and Bell City will host Caruthersville on Tuesday.

ESSEX - The Richland Rebels played the state-ranked Clarkton Reindeer close Friday night, but ended up on the short end 68-54.

"(Clarkton) has a nice team," said Richland coach Doyle Denbow. "Every time we would make a run and get within four to six points they would stretch it back out."

Richland was led in scoring by Corey Moore who scored 37 points including five 3-pointers.

"We're improving," Denbow said. "We are just little and can't match up with bigger players."

The Richland junior varsity team picked up a win on the night downing Clarkton 51-40.

Richland (5-15) will travel to Bernie on Tuesday.

KENNETT - The Dexter Bearcats jumped out to an early lead and held off the Kennett Indians to win 66-60.

"We got up by 10 to 15 points and just couldn't put them away," said Dexter coach Eric Sitze. "They played good defense against us, they were real physical."

Derek Demaree returned from injury and scored 17 points to lead the Bearcats while Chris Guethle and Josh Miller chipped in 16 and 15, respectively.

Kennett was led in scoring by Cody Robinson's 19 points.

Dexter (17-6) played Caruthersville on Saturday. Results can be found in Monday's edition of the Standard Democrat.

MORELY -- The Scott County Central Braves evened their record at .500 with a 93-76 win at home over the Hayti Indians.

Scott Central trailed 25-19 after the first quarter but jumped ahead of the Indians 44-41 at the half after a Andrew Pullen 3-pointer from halfcourt as time expired. The Braves then used that momentum in the second half cruising to the 17-point win.

Chris Pullen led Scott Central (11-11) with 26 points. Josh Boley had 15, Jeremy Johnson and Andrew Pullen each scored 13 and Daniel Holman added 12.

Andrew Pullen was hospitilized following the game, complaining of shortness of breath and numbness. His prognosis was not known at press time.
