SIKESTON - Cpl. G.C. Wilson, of Sikeston Route 1, is back from the Italian campaign after serving 26 months overseas as a tank driver with a Tank Destroyer Battalion.

CROWDER - Pfc. Everett Lufcy, son of Mrs. Faye Lufcy, was wounded in action in France, a telegram from the War Department informed his wife.

40 years ago

SIKESTON - Twelve young people from six European nations and Israel, with their guide, left Sikeston this morning on another leg of a six-week educational tour of the United States. Traveling under the auspices of the New York Association for World Travel Exchange, the group arrived in the city Thursday night and were guests of Sikeston families.

SIKESTON - The final plans of Hunter Acres West Sixth Addition was approved by Planning and Zoning Commission members Tuesday night. Now the plat will be forwarded to the city council for consideration at September's meeting. Approval of the plat for the 23-acre subdivision was contingent upon the installation of sidewalks on major streets and other improvements on Wakefield and Euclid avenues and larger drainage easements being installed. The subdivision is being developed by Collins Construction Co.

NEW MADRID - The New Madrid County Central Booster Club will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the NMCC High School Commons Area.

BERTRAND - Fire of unknown origin destroyed a residence at 104 Ash St. in Bertrand early today. Fire personnel from Charleston were dispatched at 12:45 a.m. today to assist Bertrand firemen with the blaze at the home owned by Mary Brown. There were no injuries.
