SIKESTON - Mrs. Ralph Anderson will present her music pupils in recitals at her home. Performing will be: Jane Bowman, David Bowman, Charles Matthews, John Harper, Emily Lair, Sue Sikes, Charlotte Taft, Patsy Sims, May Lou Largent, Barbara Lennox and Betty Knupp. Performing on Monday will be: Daphne McNeely, Barbara Gunthrie, Barbara Canedy, Billy Northington, Jack Bowman, Dot Matthews, Frances Mattingly, Betty Ann Northington, Betty Lynn Sizemore, Gene Hirschberg, Tomara Ronald, Peggy Thrower, Alice Martin, Bill Huters, Betty Anderson and Peggy Lair.

CHARLESTON - The Bird-Rush-Dirk School District became the third rural district to vote in favor of annexation to the Charleston R-4 district Friday, 126-76.

SIKESTON - In a work session this week, the Sikeston R-6 Board of Education gave school officials tentative approval to move ahead on plans for an additional classroom for all-day kindergarten and the addition of two guidance counselors in the elementary division.

SIKESTON - A late-winter storm dumped more than a foot of snow on much of Southeast Missouri, closing roads and schools and leading to numerous minor traffic accidents. According to the Scott county Sheriff's Department, the northbound lanes on Interstate 55 were closed near Benton. "Tractor trailer trucks could not make it up the hill," said a spokesperson for the sheriff's department.

MINER - At a monthly Board of Alderman meeting, members voted to allow Drury Inns Inc. to construct an 82-room Drury Inn, complete with glass elevator and indoor/outdoor pool on the former site of Bessie's Restaurant.
