Popp wins Tywappity 5k

CHAFFEE - Blake Popp of Cape Girardeau won the Tywappity Trails 5K Run held Saturday at Lake Tywappity near Chaffee.

Popp's winning time of 19:11 was indicative of the hot and humid conditions. The top female finisher of the event was Amy Arteme of Benton, with a 21:53 finish.

With 43 participants in the race, the 2002 event set a new seniors record (racers over age 60). Peter Blums bettered his time of last year by more than a minute with a finishing time of 27:36. Danny Copeland of Memphis, Tenn., finished second overall with 19:29 and third place overall winner was former champion Ross Tilghman of Cape Girardeau with 19:51.

Stephanie Bennett was the top Chaffee finisher with 24:53.
