Raymond Wright

SIKESTON - Raymond Wright, 78, died Jan. 6, 2004, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

Born Aug. 8, 1925, in Clarkton, son of the late Rudy A. and Beulah L. Freeman Wright, he was a master certified watchmaker and owned and operated Wright's Jewelry before retiring. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and was chairman of the Scott County Health Department during the planning and building phase of the new health department. A member of the First Baptist Church in Sikeston, he was also a member of Sikeston Masonic Lodge 310 AF&AM, Moolah Temple, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Henry Meldrum American Legion Post 114 and the Elks Lodge.

On Aug. 8, 1944, he married Betty Gray who survives of the home.

He is also survived by one sister, Betty G. Crowe of Valparaiso, Ind.

One brother and two sisters preceded him in death.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston, where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday. Dr. Rick Ramsey, pastor of the First Baptist Church, will officiate.

New Madrid American Legion Post 595 will conduct full military honors at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston.
