SIKESTON - Fred Barchers, Poplar Bluff tulip lover, came to Sikeston Wednesday and reported that if there was sufficient "civic interest," he might move here. He recently was given wide publicity as the man with 180,000 tulip bulbs - 625 varieties who shunned commercialization of his crop.

SIKESTON - Five births were recorded over the weekend at the Missouri Delta Community Hospital. Sons were born May 26 to Mr. and Mrs. William Artis, Mr. and Mrs. William Allen and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Farmer. Daughters were born to Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Harralston and Mr. and Mrs. Myron Henderson. All families are of Sikeston.

CHARLESTON - Valerie Peters, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Peters Jr. of Bertrand, was named valedictorian of the 1981-1982 graduating class of Charleston High School. Salutatorian honors went to Pamela Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. Lindsay Brown III of Charleston.

SIKESTON - Reflecting over the 1992 Missouri legislative session, local Rep. Dennis Ziegenhorn believes that members of the House successfully tackled a number of tough problems with legislative action. "Although the year was plagued with disappointments, I can't say it was a non-productive year," Ziegenhorn explained. "It was much more successful than the governor is saying. There were a lot of good bills passed this year."

BENTON - Newly-elected officers for the Kelly FFA Chapter are Robin Slavings, president; Matt Sander, sentinel; Erika Rose, chaplain; Daryl Birk, reporter; Ryan Morrow, treasurer; Jeremy Vetter, vice president; Nathan Fraser, secretary; Jennifer Felter, vice president; and Chris Seyer, historian.
