Dessa Fowler

SIKESTON - Dessa Rhea Fowler, 84, died Feb. 11, 2002, at her home.

Born Aug. 26, 1917, in Carbon Hill, Ala., daughter of the late James and Minnie Stovall Kitchen, she was a member of the First Assembly of God Church and co-founder of the Women's Aglow ministry in Sikeston. She had taught school in a one-room schoolhouse in Cross County, Ark., for many years and later worked for the International Shoe Company before retiring in 1968.

On Sept. 1, 1937, in Cherry Valley, Ark., she married Buford Fowler who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: one son, Bobby L. Fowler of Sikeston; two daughters, Catherine Wilson of Tavares, Fla., and Mary F. Alsup of St. Charles; and six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

One brother and four sisters preceded her in death.

Visitation is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at the First Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Allen Basham, pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
