DEXTER -- John Delmar "Pete" Adams, 82, died Nov. 3, 2002, at St. John's Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis.

Born April 8, 1920, at Powe, son of the late Charlie B. and Sadie Ray Whitehead Adams, he was a retired heavy equipment operator for Harris Ready Mix in Dexter. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of Kenny Sisler Disabled American Veterans Chapter 47 and Dexter Elks Lodge 2439.

On May 19, 1947, at Piggott, Ark., he married Verttle Lee Silliman who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Delmar Gene and Audrey Adams of Fairdealing and David Keith and Marsha Adams of Dexter; two brothers, Charles B. Adams and Prentis Adams of Dexter; four sisters, Louise Goins of Pontiac, Mich., Vivian Ellsworth of Powe, Mavis Hall of Hillsboro and Doris Britt of Clarkston, Mich.; and two grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and one grandson.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter, where services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Vaughn Wright will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Chalk Bluff Cemetery near Dexter.
