SIKESTON - Delores Blackburn Newton, 59, passed on to be with the Lord on Jan. 26, 2003, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.

Born June 21, 1943, in Charleston, daughter of the late Marion and Evelyn Delk Blackburn, she lived in Charleston until moving to Sikeston as a young girl and graduated in 1962 from Sikeston High School.

Later she became very active in her church, serving the Lord. She served many years as a Sunday school teacher, youth leader and was involved in nursing home ministry. A member of Trinity Gospel Church, Delores truly had a heart after God. She found great pleasure in being in God's house with her church family. The life she led, and the love she had for God, was always shown in the way she lived her life. She has been an inspiration and source of strength to her family and friends. She also served the Sikeston Girl Scouts as a leader for many years. She has fought a good fight, kept the faith and now has won her race.

On Feb. 22, 1969, she married Billy J. Newton who preceded her in death on Sept. 26, 1999.

Survivors include: one daughter, C. Michelle Newton of the home; one sister, Anna B. Blackburn Mitchell of Sikeston; two brothers and sisters-in-law, William "Bill" and Betty Blackburn of Bertrand and Rolwing Lee and Mary Lou Blackburn of Sikeston; two sisters- and brothers-in-law, Mary Jo Newton and Don Icenogle of Peoria, Ill., and Betty and Ron Jaynes of Chaffee; several nieces and nephews, including Vicki and Bill Deane, Kerri Don Blackburn, Melissa Rhodes, Tim and Christy Jaynes and Mark and Amy Jaynes of Sikeston, Matthew Jaynes of Bloomfield, Grant Jaynes and Brooke Jaynes of Chaffee, Kirk and Cherie Lloyd of South Carolina, David Blackburn of Springfield, Joy Blackburn of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, Greg and Donna Icenogle of Washington, D.C., Mike and Becky Icenogle of Florida and Randy and Renea Icenogle of Peoria; and great-nieces Rory Heacox Jaynes and Mallory Jaynes of Sikeston.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Ponder Funeral Home, where services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Larry Davis, pastor of Trinity Gospel Church, will officiate.

Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston.

Pallbearers will be: Greg Icenogle, Pat Burton, Alan Lancaster, Cane McClain, Todd Pierce, Mark Hart, Don McClain, Randy Icenogle and Bill Deane.

Honorary pallbearers will be: the Rev. John Addis, Lawrence Neal, Donald Icenogle and the Rev. Grady Etheridge.
