Delta holds off Sikeston rally in Chaffee tourney

CHAFFEE -- The second day of the 26th Annual Chaffee Lady Devils Invitational Tournament took place on Wednesday night with four games.

Delta 40, Sikeston 38

In a thrilling semifinal game, top-seeded Delta avoided an upset from Sikeston, holding off a late rally to earn a nail-biting 40-38 victory.

Rebecca Below led the Lady Bobcats with 15 points, followed by Rebecca Cook with 12. For Sikeston, Joy Daniel was the only player to finish in double figures with 13 points. Paige Silverthorn and Jennifer Medlin each contributed seven points each.

With the victory, Delta earned a spot in the championship game on Saturday. The Lady Bobcats will face the winner of a Kelly-Scott City game at 4:30 p.m.

Sikeston will play in the third pace game on Saturday at 3 p.m. They will face the loser of the Kelly-Scott City game.

Scott Central 81, East Prairie 11

In the consolation bracket, Scott Central was all over East Prairie, 81-11. East Prairie had no answer for Janet Penrod, who scored a game-high 41 points.

Christina Valenzuela contributed 14 points for the Bravettes, followed by Brittany Godwin with 13. For East Prairie, Michelle Redman led the way with four points.

Scott Central moves on to the consolation championship with the win. The Bravettes will play the winner of a Oran-Chaffee game on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

Scott City 51, Chaffee 42

In the first game on Wednesday, Scott City defeated Chaffee 51-42 in a first-round matchup. Jenny Pinkston led the Lady Rams to victory with 18 points. For Chaffee, Jennifer Vandeven scored a game-high 22.

Lauren Groves did not play for the Lady Rams.

Scott City will face Kelly today in the semifinal round at 7:30 p.m. Chaffee will face Oran tonight in the consolation bracket at 6 p.m.
