SIKESTON - The Southeast Missouri Council for Social Studies will have its annual fall dinner meeting at the Holiday Inn. Speaking will be Mrs. Catherine Matthews on "How a Background in History Helps in Foreign Travel."


BENTON - Charles Royal will be chairman of the Scott County Heart Fund drive, it was announced today by Phil Waldman, area chairman for Scott, New Madrid, Mississippi, Dunklin, Pemiscot and Stoddard counties.

Nov. 29, 1986

SIKESTON - Sikeston Coach Mike Foster and Notre Dame's Brad Wittenborn met again last week at the Sikeston Invitational seeding meeting. At the meeting, coaches get together before tournaments to say how good or bad their teams are, hoping to get a good first-round draw.


DEXTER - The Chamber of Commerce has designated Wrap It Up in Dexter as the Christmas theme for upcoming activities, according to Chairman Greg Banken of Gregory's Creations Unlimited. The traditional lighting of the tree has been set for 7 p.m. Dec. 5 at the Howard Chrisman Mini-Park downtown.

BLYTHEVILLE, Ark. - Residents along the New Madrid Fault were shaken by an estimate 4.3 earthquake shortly before midnight. Authorities reported no injuries and no damage immediately following the tremor. The earthquake awoke people in Arkansas, Missouri and Tennessee, who reported buildings and furniture shaking.


CHARLESTON - Last year, Bobby Spencer coached the Charleston Bluejays to a Class 3A State Championship. This season, Spencer claims, "We are a pretty average team. We're nothing exciting." Most sportswriters in the area believe Coach Spencer to be bluffing.
