Gene Medcalf

DEXTER - Elmer "Gene" Medcalf Jr., 84, died Aug. 23, 2002, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

Born Jan. 23, 1918, at Bloomfield, son of the late Elmer and Lura Mae Bishoff Medcalf Sr., he was affiliated with the First United Methodist Church in Dexter. He owned and operated the Singer Sewing Machine store in Dexter for many years and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

On June 30, 1941, at Kirkwood, he married Marie L. Kirkpatrick who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: one son, Bob Medcalf of Southaven, Miss.; two daughters, Dixie Hicks of Kansas City and Lana Clark of Ocala, Fla.; one brother, Benny Medcalf of Park Hills; one sister, Jewell Langdon of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services were conducted at 2 p.m. today at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter with Larry Hinman and the Rev. Roger Wooten officiating.

Burial followed in the Essex Cemetery.
