HOLCOMB - The East Prairie Eagles basketball team defeated the Risco Tigers in the consolation semifinals of the Holcomb Tournament on Tuesday night, 79-48.

Led by junior Tony Jones, the Eagles controlled the boards in the second half and put away the pesky Tigers.

East Prairie led 41-31 at halftime, but Jones scored 17 of his 25 points in the third quarter as the Eagles outscored the Tigers 28-13 in the third.

"We played a solid first half," said Risco head coach Brandon Blankenship, "we were moving the ball around and getting good looks at the basket. We held Jones to six points in the first half, but in the second half he just got every rebound and we couldn't compete. We just don't have the athletes right now to play with that type of team. I give our kids credit however, they never quit and played hard right down to the final buzzer."

Sophomore M.C. Williams hit four 3-pointers for the Eagles and finished with 15 points.

Ricky Davis led Risco with 18 points and Josh Cullum netted eight points for the Tigers.

East Prairie (1-1) will play in the consolation final at the Holcomb Tournament on Friday against a team TBD.

Risco (0-2) next battles the Oran Eagles at home on Tuesday. The junior varsity game is set to tip at 6 p.m.
