SIKESTON - The Sikeston soccer team fell to 0-4 on the season with a 5-0 loss to Marion, Ill., on Tuesday at Matthews Elementary.

Sikeston got outshot 18-12 in the game by the Wildcats.

"They're a pretty tough team and they've got some pretty good players," said Sikeston head coach Derrick Long. "We've got a lot of young players, some freshmen and sophomores, playing varsity. So it's going to take time. They're going to take their lumps being young players against these juniors and seniors. They're just going to have to learn from their mistakes every game."

Marion scored all five of its goals in the first half as the Bulldogs shut out the Wildcats in the second half.

"We started off a little sluggish but we played a good second half," said Long. "We tightened up our defense and they didn't score on us. We just need to string a few good halves together in a row. Hopefully we can keep moving in the right direction."

Marion got on the board when Felipe Pencheira scored at the 7:00 mark. Kyle Smith made it 2-0 with a goal at the 16:00 mark.

Andrew Bowlby scored the first of his two goals at the 24:00 mark. Bart Orso's goal at the 31:00 mark made it 4-0. Bowlby finished up the scoring with a goal at the 34:00 mark.

Sikeston's Jake Marsh and Jason Deere combined for 13 saves in the game.

Sikeston will play at Kennett today at 4 p.m. The Bulldogs will be home to host Notre Dame on Thursday at 4 p.m.

The Sikeston jayvee team won 4-3 against Marion's JV when Jordan Dillender scored the game-winning goal with two minutes left in the game.

Kyle Howard recorded a hat-trick for Sikeston, scoring on assists from Ryan Beaird, Grant Ingram and Trevor Alfield.

Dillender's goal, which came 15 seconds after Marion tied the game, was unassisted.
