Elsie Scott

CHAFFEE - Elsie Emelia Scott, best known as "Grandma Elsie," has made her final journey to everlasting life with God as of Feb. 1, 2004, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Grandma Elsie's life began in Canada with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Onorio D'Augustine on Dec. 10, 1919. After the passing of her mother, she moved to Italy with her grandparents and at the age of 17, she boarded a ship to rejoin her father in the United States.

Through her life, she made her home in Detroit, Mich., Paulding, Ohio, Homestead, Fla., Sanford, N.C., and her final move was to Chaffee to share her life and love with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Grandma Elsie always lived life to its fullest, raising two children and taking on a variety of jobs along the way. She owned a bowling alley/diner, a bar, ran a night club, hotel and two restaurants, sold cosmetics and volunteered at a hospital making "Cuddly Bears" for all the sick children. Her last job was as a volunteer cook at the Bread Basket in Sanford. While at the Bread Basket she cooked for an average of 75 homeless people per day and enjoyed every minute she spent there.

Grandma Elsie left behind many who loved her: a grandson and his family, Jim and Mary Chambers and great-grandchildren, Jimmy, Nikki and John of Chaffee; two granddaughters and their families, Mary Ann and Daryl Wyatt and great-grandchildren, Cory and Wanda Pobst of Kennett; and Nancy Dement and great-grandchildren, Tabitha and Daniel of Homestead; one stepdaughter and her family, Abbi and Mel Kruse and great-grandchildren, Morgan, Haeli, Michaelia and Bret of Tulsa, Okla.; and cousins, Domenic and Mary Mequio of Clinton Township, Mich. She also became an honorary grandma for Layton and Landon Tenkhoff, Amy Blattel and Madalyn Kiefer, all of Chaffee.

Grandma also had many friends that touched her life in a special way, some of them being: Jane Albers of South Lyon, Mich., Mable Shy, Delphine Gosche and Sara Wade of Chaffee and an address book full of friends from all over the United States.

Grandma's children preceded her in their life journey: Herbie Wyatt at age 23 and Lydia Wyatt at age 50.

Grandma was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church and Daughters of St. Ambrose. She worked the church dinners and concession stand for her great-grandchildren's sporting events.

Visitation begins at 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, where a funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Ralph Duffner, pastor and friend, officiating.

A memorial service will be planned in Paulding at a later date.

With sad hearts, we say good-bye, but our joyful memories will carry us through until we meet again.
