SIKESTON - The Lawson Business Service, which has offices in the Dunn Hotel, opened recently and is offering aid in bookkeeping and tax worries to business and professional men of the area. W.H. Lawson is manager of the business service.

SIKESTON - Phil Leslie, a former Sikestonian and television program script writer in Hollywood, Calif., scored an electronic grand slam. Three of the programs which he wrote will appear on successive nights this week. The programs are "Petticoat Junction," "The Beverly Hillbillies" and "Hazel."

SIKESTON - Christmas presents, clothing, jewelry valued at $500 and meat were among items stolen from Sikeston homes. In addition to an undetermined value on stolen Christmas presents, 30 pounds of catfish and 10 pounds of pork were stolen from an unlocked freezer in a garage.

SIKESTON - Tuesday is the final day for the Fine Free Weeks at the Sikeston Public Library. The library will forgive the regular fine for each overdue book in exchange for a nonperishable food item which will be donated to the Community Christmas Campaign, sponsored by the Standard Democrat.

SIKESTON - After getting blown out on Monday night by Sikeston, the Caruthersville Tigers responded with a 57-50 win over Notre Dame for their first win of the season.

CHAFFEE - No team can play the same game twice. Especially not in a tournament. According to Sikeston girl's basketball coach Lee Brooks, his team tried to do just that in last night's second round action in the Chaffee Girls Invitational Tournament, falling to the Scott City Lady Rams 59-27.
