F.M. Scherer

SCOTT CITY - F.M. Scherer, 82, died at 3:35 p.m. Jan. 10, 2004, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Born Nov. 6, 1921, at Fornfelt to the late Fridolin M. and Clara Amelia Enderle Scherer, he was a fireman on the Cotton Belt Railroad from 1941 until 1982. A member of the U.S. Air Force serving during World War II, he also was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Scott City and VFW Post 6407 in Scott City.

On Feb. 18, 1950, at Fornfelt, he married Ruby Roth, who survives of Scott City.

Other survivors include: one daughter, Martha Doss of Rolla; one brother, Robert Scherer of Cheyenne, Wyo.; and two sisters, Loretta Vaughn of Midwest City, Okla., and Velma Statler of Carson City, Nev.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother and four sisters.

Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City where a prayer service will be conducted at 7 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Scott City with the Rev. David Coon officiating.

Burial will follow in the Lightner Cemetery at Scott City with full military honors by the Missouri Honors Program.
