Harry Bock

NEW MADRID - Harry H. Bock, 86, died Sept. 12, 2003, at Beverly Healthcare in New Madrid.

Born Nov. 18, 1916, in New Madrid, to the late C.C. and Dixie Riley Bock, he attended Immaculate Conception School and New Madrid High School, Southeast Missouri Teachers College in Cape Girardeau and the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law, where he received his juris doctorate in 1940. He was admitted into the practice of law in Missouri in 1940. He practiced law for 50 years and specialized in drainage law, representing for more than 35 years the Little River Drainage District, the largest drainage district in the United States. A member of Immaculate Conception Parish in New Madrid, he was active in a number of civic organizations and participated in many civic improvement projects.

On June 7, 1941, in New Madrid, he married Kathleen E. Newsum who preceded him in death in 1999.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Jane Bock McCoy; and two brothers, Charles C. "Brother" Bock Jr. and George D. Bock.

Survivors include: three sons, George M. Bock of Leawood, Kan., and H. Riley Bock and Lynn N. Bock of New Madrid; two daughters, Frances Bock of Cape Girardeau and Elizabeth A. Bock of Springfield; and 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today at Richards Funeral Home in New Madrid, where a rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Randolph Tochtrop, pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery.
