Joe Carman

CHARLESTON - Robert Joseph "Joe" Carman, 61, died at 12:10 p.m. June 3, 2002, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

Born Sept. 20, 1940, in Charleston, he was the son of the late George William and Mary Helen Lankheit Carman. He was a lifelong resident of Charleston, where he was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. Carman was employed by Flexible Foam Incorporated (formerly Burkhart's) in Cairo, Ill.

On Jan. 24, 1970, he married Barbara Pemberton who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: one son, Robert Jason Carman of Charleston; and two brothers, Ernest Carman of Charleston and David Carman of Kelso.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at McMikle Funeral Home, where prayer services and Knights of Columbus rites will begin at 7:30 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Henry Catholic Church. The Rev. Jerome Fortenberry, pastor of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cairo, will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Texas Bend Cemetery near Charleston.
