Speakout 4/3

Wednesday, April 3, 2002

How come in the court cases you never list the things that were in court for that day. In Sunday's paper some of the things that were in court that day didn't appear and I was there. I happened to notice that some of these felony cases, and almost all of the county cases represented by a certain Sikeston attorney, never show up in the court listing. These are DWI's, assaults and hit and runs. They never show up and I sat right there. But my name comes out every time the court list is published.

Each individual court submits its list to the paper for each court date. Felony cases are printed in circuit court reports and misdemeanor and traffic cases are listed in associate court reports. If you didn't see cases printed it was because the court did not send them to us. We print what we receive.

On the evening of March 23 I lost my purse at Wal-Mart. It was a brown Liz Claiborne purse and I am so thankful for the person or persons who found it and turned it in. We just have so many honest people in the world and I just want to thank them for turning my purse in and I got it back. Thank you so much.

If anyone has any information on any dog training or obedience classes in the Sikeston area, please leave a number in SpeakOut.

Canine Companion Training Club offers classes in Gordonville. Call Yvonne Romann in Perryville at (573) 547-7378 for information.

I want to warn the citizens of Sikeston about a young man who is knocking on people's doors at odd hours of the night with a sad story of his car being broken down or some sad story of this type. Please do not answer your door. If you do, please do not give him any money because he is not asking for money for the reason he's telling.

Have you contacted DPS? If not, the number is 471-6200.

I'd like to SpeakOut about the big cement plant that this company is wanting to build on the riverfront at Ste. Genevieve. At a time when Missouri is losing industry right and left, I don't know why you blowed-up heads in St. Louis are complaining about it. You used to have the worst record there is of pollution in Missouri. You people in Ste. Genevieve hang in there. I hope you get your plant; I think you will. I'm going to be following you and we people down here in the Bootheel have lost enough industry, so, yes, we need that cement plant and we need it bad.

Has anyone noticed how terrible the playground equipment looks at the Hunter-Dawson Park in New Madrid? It looks like if they have the money to upgrade the park with lights, a trail and benches that they could at least paint the playground equipment. I don't think it has been painted since they put it there when the park was new.

I'm a concerned homeowner on Coleman Street and would like to SpeakOut about a water problem we have. When it rains, water stands on Coleman Street on the west side of the street and it's coming in our yards and flooding our yards. I've got a good dry basement and I sure hate to see this water come in my yard. I thought I'd SpeakOut on this because it needs to be taken care of. It's an eyesore and is getting bad-looking.
