CHARLESTON - Bruce R. Hess, 88, died at 3:20 a.m. May 16, 2004, at his home.

Born Feb. 15, 1916, in Auburn, Neb., son of the late A.C. "Cleve" and Lydia Williams Hess, he lived in Mississippi County most of his life. A retired farmer and landowner, he was of the Baptist belief.

On Jan. 21, 1938, he married Pauline McClean who preceded him in death on Feb. 9, 2003.

Survivors include: one daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Andy French of Bertrand; three sisters, Marjorie Suedan of Hayward, Calif., Opal Williams of Wyatt and Wilda DeField of Charleston; three grandchildren, Patricia Warren, Andrew French and James Allen French; and four great-grandchildren.

Also preceding him in death were one daughter, Mary Melinda Baker; four brothers, Clarence Hess, Leroy Hess, Eugene Hess and Tommie Hess; and one sister, Mary Ellen Jones.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at McMikle Funeral Home, where services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Dean Wallace, pastor of the Wyatt Baptist Church, will officiate.

Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery near Charleston.

Pallbearers will be: James Allen French, Andrew French, Jason French, Bill Feezor, Brad Warren, Bruce DeField and David Williams.
