Speakout 8/14

Tuesday, August 14, 2007

Not too long ago I wrote in jest how "Bring 'em on" George had pardoned "Scooter" Libby and had let poor old Paris Hilton sit it out in the slammer. Now in your editorial on Page 17 of Wednesday's edition of The Democrat you ridiculed Al Gore, who rightfully by popular vote was elected president, about his policy regarding global warming. Come on Mike, wake up and smell the roses. There are more important issues in this divided country than wasting valuable news space on George Bush's ideas on a serious issue such as global warming. I doubt if you will print this either and the only recourse I have is to cancel my Standard Democrat subscription or not renew it when it expires in October. I enjoy reading your paper in spite of your lopsided opinions. I respect your rural carrier, Brent Prindle, who in spite of the unkind elements is faithful in his delivery. Sincerely, A bush whacking, yellow, or as they say in Hicksville, yaller dog.

I am a resident of Sikeston. I live right behind Burger King and the GED School. I was going out this evening to take my trash out, about 9 o'clock at night. I encountered a big skunk and it hissed at me. It was pretty big, about the size of two cats put together. I called the city of Sikeston police department to report this because this animal could have rabies or whatever. I wish someone would take care of this. I encountered this thing and I didn't know what to do. I had to take off running to the house. It ain't too good.

I saw something in New Madrid last week that really worried me. It was at the ballpark in New Madrid, looked like high school boys, and they were chasing each other on lawn mowers up and down the field. Looked like they were mowing the park, but they were chasing each other on those lawn mowers. It looked like they were trying to make them stand up on two wheels. I don't know who's supposed to be watching those boys, but they could get hurt really bad. Also, they could tear up that equipment and I know it's expensive. I know it costs us money to buy that equipment for the city. If those boys work for the city, somebody needs to be watching them before they get hurt. I've never seen anybody cut up shines that bad. Heads up, New Madrid. Take care of your boys out there because they're not watching what they're doing.

This is in response to On the loose, Aug. 8. This is clearly a lack of intelligence by the caller about pit bulls. A pit bull is no more dangerous than any other dog, it's about the character of the person who raises it. You should rely on research and knowledge instead of hearsay. It shows your ignorance.
