EAST PRAIRIE -- East Prairie got a one-hitter from Ben Walters to slip past Oran 3-1 and claim the Scott-Mississippi Conference regular-season title on Thursday.

Walters, who improved to 7-1, struck out 12, walked two in a stellar effort.

"Ben had a gutsy performance today," said East Prairie coach Jason Aycock. "He threw like an ace."

Danny Bright and Caleb Hatton went 2-for-3 for Oran (16-2, 5-0) with one RBI apiece. Taylor White added two hits in three trips, also.

"We came out stinging the ball on 'em," added Aycock, whose team rapped eight hits.

Chase Seyer took the loss for Oran (15-7, 4-1).

Tyler Beardslee had Oran's lone hit.

No. 2-seed Oran faces No. 7 Scott County Central in the Class 1, District 2 opener for both teams on Monday at 4 p.m. at Chaffee.

East Prairie and Senath-Hornersville collide at Malden in the Class 2, District 1 tournament on Monday at 5.

FREDERICKTOWN -- Sikeston blanked Fredericktown 3-0 on Thursday in the final regular-season girls soccer match.

Ali Blurton tallied all three Bulldog goals in the second half, giving her the team leadership with 10.

Blurton was assisted by Paige Silverthorn at the 50-minute mark, Emily Taylor at 57:00 and Katie DeLaRosa at 72:00.

Goalie Audra Wooley recorded the shutout with seven saves, as Sikeston outshot Fredericktown 19-7.

Ironically, Sikeston opens district play against Fredericktown, a team they have defeated twice already in a 4-15-2 campaign.

"It's good to get a win a couple of days before you play them in a game that really matters," said Sikeston coach Derrick Long.

The Bulldogs host the Black Cats in the first round of the Class 1, District 1 tournament on Saturday at 11 a.m.
