PALATINE, Ill. - James Edward Lee, 70, died Nov. 18, 2002.

Born May 8, 1932, in Sikeston, Mo., son of the late James Ray and Mildred Beatrice Lee, he graduated in 1951 from Sikeston High School and in 1957 from Southeast Missouri State University at Cape Girardeau with a bachelor of science degree in education. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954-56 and during 1957-67, he was a football coach and social studies teacher in Mononk, Ill., and Jackson, Mo. He joined the USLIFE Credit Life Insurance Company (formerly the Reliance Insurance Co.) in 1971, where he became president in 1980. He served as president and chief executive officer of USLIFE for 16 years before retiring in 1996.

On Aug. 10, 1957, in Sikeston, he married Irma Schlosser, who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, James E. and Debra Lee; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Laura and Terry McKenna, Lisa Conner-White and Cynthia and Paul Christin; and 13 grandchildren.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Ahlgrim and Sons Funeral Home in Palatine, where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Burial will follow in the St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery at Palatine.

Pallbearers will be James E. Lee II, Terence McKenna, Paul Christin, Keith White, Tom Conner and Mark McKenna.
