SIKESTON - S 1-C Billy Shuppert, son of Mrs. Ella Shuppert, spent the Easter holidays at his home. Billy, who is stationed at Millington, Tenn., returned to his base Monday.

SIKESTON - A baby daughter was born Tuesday at the Sikeston General Hospital to Tech Sgt. and Mrs. Gene Bowman. The baby has been named Dorothy Ann.

MOREHOUSE - In the city election here, two offices will have opposition out of six offices up for election. J.T. Kindred will be opposed by Charles Neal for chief of police. For police judge, incumbent Estle Rogers will be opposed by James Hewitt.

SIKESTON - A 62.7 million 1985-86 operating budget for the Board of Municipal Utilities was approved at Wednesday night's monthly meeting. The budget includes expected revenues from retail operations and the electrical department, electrical wholesale, the water department and the sewer department.


EAST PRAIRIE - The annual Man and Woman of the Year banquet, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, will features Floyd Peters as guest speaker. Peters is assistant coach and head defensive coach of the St. Louis Cardinals.

BENTON - Scott County residents opposed both 1/4 cent sales tax for law enforcement and jail construction. The law enforcement tax proposal was defeated Tuesday with a total of 3,414 no votes to 2,527 yes while the construction tax was defeated with 3,407 opposing votes received and 2,560 votes in favor. A Scott County tax to fund mental health did not prove to have any better luck. With an even greater margin, the mill tax was defeated with a 3,891 no to 2,032 yes vote total.


GIDEON - In the Gideon No. 37 School District, Larry D. Wiggs and William D. Cook were elected to terms on the board.
