SJHS boys and girls track swept by Cape Central

SIKESTON - The Sikeston 8th grade boys and girls track teams were swept by Cape Central on Thursday at Sikeston Public Schools Stadium.

The boys team was nipped 64-58 while the girls lost 90-29.

Sikeston's boys team won six events and had a seventh in the bag, but they were disqualified by an illegal handoff in the 4 x 200 meter relay, a race they won by a landslide. The 10-point swing proved to be the difference.

Individually, Sikeston's Tommie Strong took first in the 100 meter dash (11.55) and the long jump (17'0").

Strong also ran a leg on the 4 x 100 meter relay which took first place with a time of 49.99. He teamed up with Dominique McCray, Bryan Branion and Brandon Washington.

Chase Johnson took first place in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:24 and Justin Deere won the pole vault with a height of 8'0".

The Bulldogs also won the 4 x 400 meter relay with a time of 4:35. Johnson, Deere, Matt Rushing and Stephen Beydler all ran in the event.

Others that placed individually were Zach Brooks (2nd - 100 meter hurdles), Branion (2nd - 100 meter dash), Rushing (2nd - 1600 meter run, 3rd - 800 meter run), McCray (2nd - 200 meter dash), David Cody (2nd - triple jump), A.J. Vanover (2nd - shot put and discus), Clayton Mayfield (3rd - 400 meter dash, 3rd - pole vault), Washington (3rd - 200 meter dash), Timmy Hart (3rd - triple jump) and Tyler Dame (3rd - shot put and discus).

On the girls side, Sikeston had three first place finishers. Chasmon Herron won the only individual race, taking first in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.88.

She also ran legs on the first place 4 x 100 and 4 x 200 meter relays.

The 4 x 100 relay, ran by Herron, Brittany Jenkins, Jordan Rodgers and Shaniqua Townsend won with a time of 1:59.89.

The 4 x 200 team, ran by Herron, Jenkins, Tia Atchison and Townsend won with a time of 56.26.

Others that placed for Sikeston were Chasidy Johnson (2nd - 75 meter hurdles), Kaitlyn Turnbow (2nd - 800 meter run), Katie DeLaRosa (2nd - pole vault), Townsend (3rd - 100 meter dash), Ebony Banks (3rd - 400 meter dash), Rebecca Patterson (3rd - 800 meter run), Terisha Moore (3rd - shot put and discus).
