Speakout 8/14

I just got home and decided to watch the Oprah Winfrey show. And there is one thing I wonder - if she has been on TV for 20 years and so grateful and things, why is all she showing now is reruns?

Why do people in small towns like Oran think they are above the law. A policeman tries to enforce the law and the people cry foul. You would think they would want the laws enforced for the safety of their selves and families. If you aren't breaking the law you have nothing to fear from a police officer. It is a sad day when the rednecks and thugs can run the cops out of town.

I just think that the Standard Democrat is being a little hard on the Garden of Memories. I pass that place every day and the lawn always looks very neatly mowed. The picture you had on the front page of that man standing and mowing around his grave site, number one the grass didn't look too long where he was standing in the first place. In the second place, we have just had rain and rain and rain so everyone was behind on their mowing and it had grown up quite a bit. I think you should give them a break.

I had a problem today and I needed an officer to come out to my home and this man was officer Vanover. He was such a nice and kind gentleman. I called because everybody is putting down the police officers, they are racist or this or that. I think they do an outstanding job. They are human beings like we are and they need their respect from society. By the way, I'm black.

Mike, it is rode time again. Sikeston invites people from far and near, come and see and enjoy the rodeo. What a mess when they enter our city limits. Each end of town the Johnson grass is as high as a mule is tall and the ditches are grown up. If one of the rodeo bulls gets out, he may be in hiding. Plenty to eat. They would have to look closely to find him. No bull. It is a mess. For people to visit our city I wonder what they would think to see Sikeston have to offer. There is a lot of building going on, south and north of the city but what we see in the middle of our city needs to take notice and a clean-up job to be done.

This is in response to Action Needed. I have called in about this person and this person is receiving disability and this guy is not disabled. He has been working jobs harder than I have and he is receiving a check every month on time but he is not disabled. I have tried to call him in in the past but they said I had to have his Social Security number. I don't know what to say or do but if someone can give me a number where I could contact where I don't have to go through knowing someone else's Social Security number just to turn them in. This guy is wrong and he is beating the system.
