Speakout 5/22

This is to Grandma in "Help wanted." Your 16-year-old granddaughter has the same rights as other 16-year-olds. She gets to get a free education to help her rise up out of her bad situation and make a better life for herself. She made a mistake and is being given a second chance. My advice to you, grandma, would be to encourage her to stay in school and do her homework instead of being mad because she can't quit. What kind of life will she have as a dropout? By the way, we taxpayers have rights, too. I'm sure she is getting help from Family Services since she has a child. We have a right to see she gets through school so she can get a job and support herself and that child. We also have a right to say she should not have another child until she can pay for it to be delivered by herself. One mistake is enough. If she quits school and does not try to better herself, she will end up with a bunch of kids on welfare and the taxpayers are sick and tired of this.

I was calling in to thank the young man who helped me today at SAMS. I was having a plumbing problem and he told me there was a plumber, him and his father. I want to thank him and let him know that the parts he picked out did work. The sad part is I didn't get his name.

Looking for teacup Chihuahua. He is about a year and half old, brown with white underneath. I live in Morehouse. He has been missing about two weeks. My granddaughter is really missing him. If anyone may have found him please give me a call at 667-5313. If no answer please leave a message on the answering machine and I will get back to you. I would really like to find him. He is a lovable dog. Please give me a call if you found him.

I was calling to Speakout about Mr. Don Burnett and his Arise Ministries for the First United Pentecostal Church here in town. They really helped me. I was strung out on alcohol and drugs and I was down and out. He believed in me and I went through his services and they have encouraged me. I want to thank them for everything they have done. Mr. Burnett went out on a limb for me several times and kept believing in me with that I am now six and half months clean and sober. I wanted to call and thank him and Arise Recovery Services for everything they have done for me. Now I just want to go on and help somebody else and help me get back with my family. God bless them and keep up the good work.

Well, here it is again, another graduation announcement from a Sikeston High School student and you have to have a ticket to get in. They don't bother to send you a ticket so that tells me all they need is a gift. If I know them well enough to give them a gift, I will give them a gift whether they send me an announcement or not. I am really fed up with all these kids sending me graduation announcements and sometimes you haven't seen them for 25 years - well not that long because they wouldn't be graduating if they were that old. But anyway, you know what I mean. You just can't keep giving and giving and giving all these gifts to these kids you don't even know just because you know their grandparents or their mom and dad. One other thing I have a question about is why is there no right turn on Kingshighway and Malone? That seems so ridiculous. The traffic could move so much faster if you could just turn right on red on Kingshighway going north. I think I asked the city and they said it was the railroad but I don't think the railroad has anything to do with it at all. I think the city just decided to do that.

Nope, you're wrong. The prohibition on the state road is because of the railroad.
