DEXTER - Walter H. Johnson, 73, died Sept. 20, 2002, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

Born July 12, 1929, in Flint, Mich., son of the late Harry Marshall and Lorene Stevens Johnson, he was a lifelong resident of the Dexter area and retired as a city mail carrier. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dexter where he served as a deacon and in several other capacities. A U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, he was a volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America for 40 years and member of the American Legion.

On Feb. 24, 1951, at Dexter, he married Glenda Milton who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: two sons, David Andrew Johnson of Dexter and Daniel Alan Johnson of Jackson; and two sisters, Marlene Winstead of Dexter and Joyce Brents of Essex.

Preceding him in death were one brother, Jerry Johnson; and one sister, Joy Duckworth.

Visitation is from 4 p.m. Saturday until service time at 7 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Dexter. The Rev. Don Kennedy and the Rev. Mike Watkins of Dexter will officiate.

Graveside services are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Dexter Cemetery.

Watkins and Sons Funeral Home of Dexter is in charge of arrangements.
