Letter to the Editor

Your view: Good people, too

Friday, October 29, 2004

This letter is in response to Barry Horton's letter to the editor in the Oct. 25 Standard Democrat.

First of all, I would like to express my condolences to Mr. Horton regarding the death of his father. How wonderful he was able to live 91 years! Your frustration with the system was obvious and I empathize with you. I found it ironic, however, that you would mention Iraq and Hitler in the same letter. I was a little confused with your attitude and your criticism against our government being in Iraq versus the atrocities Hitler incurred on the Jews. There are huge differences, of course, but in my opinion, when you consider mass graves in Iraq and families broken apart for years, I see lots of similarities.

I support the war and our President. I hope that after you calm down you will realize that by pointing your finger at those of us who work for the state, government or private sector, you are targeting many good people. Don't you thin it is a little harsh to call us "spineless cowardly people who do not have the backbone to do what's right" an compare us to the "collaborators" who helped Hitler?

Again, sir, I sincerely appreciate your concerns and frustration for the bureaucratic system. It has been this way a long, long time. I know it doesn't make it right, but I hope you find some solace in knowing there are many good people out there who will be glad to help you. I hope you find what you are looking for.

Linda Mays,
