EAST PRAIRIE -- Sikeston's softball team picked up its fourth win of the regular season on Wednesday, defeating East Prairie 5-3.

"We didn't play East Prairie near as well as last time, when we beat them 10-0 in five innings," explained Sikeston coach Jenny Hobeck. "Today, we weren't hitting the ball as well. The hits we did have, we hit right to their fielders."

Sikeston scored two runs in the top of the first inning, only to see East Prairie come back with three runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 3-2 lead.

The Lady Bulldogs didn't score again until the sixth, when a Sarah Reeves single plated Whitney Wallace and Hailey Davis. Sikeston added an insurance run in the seventh to take the 5-3 victory.

Jessica Owens pitched the first 1 1/3 innings, allowing one walk and three hits. Molly Brinkmeyer threw the final 5 2/3 innings, giving up no hits, two walks and had five strikeouts.

"Molly Brinkmeyer did a great job coming back," said Hobeck. "We started her out in center field, but had to pull her in. She finished the rest of the game for us, allowing no hits."

At the plate Paige Silverthorn was 2-for-3, and Allison Blurton was 2-for-4 with a double. Brinkmeyer was 1-for-2 with an RBI and Reeves was 1-for-3.

East Prairie's Meghen Massey was charged with the loss. She allowed six hits, two walks and recorded two strikeouts. East Prairie's three hits came from Holdiness, Massey and Thomure, who also had both of East Prairie's RBIs.

Sikeston (4-3) will travel to Cape Central on Tuesday for a 4 p.m. game.
