Dixie M. Akins

NEW MADRID -- Dixie M. Akins, 69, died Nov. 13, 2007, in St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Ill.

Born Aug. 26, 1938, in Portageville, she was the daughter of the late J.R. and Leona Hunt Chambliss.

On Sept. 27, 1975, she married J.D. Akins who preceded her in death on Sept. 12, 2005.

Also preceding her in death were one daughter, Venus Kimball; and two brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include: one daughter, Lonnie Jackson of Litchfield, Ill.; one son, Billy Douglas of Pevely; four sisters, Judy Keck of Sikeston, Nancy Walker of Lilbourn, Teresa Flegal of the state of Oregon and Cindy Akins of the state of Kentucky; and four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled from 5-8 p.m. today at Richards Funeral Home in New Madrid, where services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday with the Rev. Dodie Townsend officiating.

Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in New Madrid.
