Speakout 10/21

I am looking for someone to work on my Singer sewing machine. Please leave your number in SpeakOut.

The police officer who was shot in the leg on Oct. 10 in Sikeston, how come he was sent to a Cape Girardeau hospital instead of the Sikeston hospital?

Would it be possible for an explanation from the Sikeston Department of Public Safety as to why the officer was taken to the Cape Girardeau hospital on Oct. 10 instead of using our local facility, since he was not in a life-threatening situation. He could have been in the hospital much quicker in Sikeston instead of Cape Girardeau.

Is there any truth to the rumor that the local ambulance service is choosing not to use the local hospital over a dispute that they have had for some time? Is that the reason the police officer was taken to a Cape hospital rather than Missouri Delta when he was injured in a shooting incident on Oct. 10. This is something the Standard Democrat should be looking into and reporting on.

The officer was initially taken to Missouri Delta Medical Center then moved to a Cape Girardeau hospital where he could have treatment by orthopedic surgeons.

I checked with some of the elderly people on the food bank. It had some that had expired in 1999. Sandwiches were outdated and two people ended up in the hospital with food poisoning. Something needs to be done.

We contacted Dorene Johnson at the Sikeston Food Bank. She said she hasn't heard anything about someone winding up in the hospital. If this is a legitimate complaint, the people affected should have contacted her immediately so the product could be pulled from the supply. "The sandwiches we get are frozen when they are received at the Food Bank and are frozen when they go to the consumer. The recipients are instructed to keep them frozen until they are ready to eat them. The date on dry goods foods is the "sell" date for stores, but not necessarily the "use by" date. We are the biggest charity in Scott County and help more people. More and more people are doing without food because of job layoffs and welfare cutbacks. The food bank helps 7,000 families in a 16-county area and about 700-800 families a month with the Rescue Mission. It would be nice to hear a "thank you" once in awhile."

Where does the money made from the East Prairie Little League football games at the admission gate and profits from the concession stand go to? I understand the coaches and concession stand workers are all volunteers, so there shouldn't be much overhead. The money they pay when kids sign up to participate is for insurance and other things, if I understood right. So is this money put into an extra account for our youth? I sure hope so.

Each week the league pays $50 for an official, $25 for someone to run the concession stand, $25 for a person to run the gate, and $40 for a man to unlock the high school field. The $25 each player paid at the beginning of the season to be in the league only covers the cost of insurance.

Each time there is terrorism aimed at Americans and we can prove that al Qaida is responsible or that they claim responsibility, or it is terrorism that they have openly requested of their followers, we should step up our attacks. We should dig deeper into their territory. We should do every damn thing we can to break their communication with terrorists that are here in this country and every country, including refusing to allow bin Laden to be shown on our TVs. To hell with freedom of speech to someone who wants nothing more than to kill our people and our freedom. We must go into Afghanistan and kill all of these bastards that have done nothing but terrorize our people. Enough is enough. It's time for vengeance.

I see these flags on people's cars and they're upside down and I've also seen flags in people's yards that are also upside down. What does that mean?

Flags flying upside down are used as a sign of distress.

This is in response to "Where was God" in the Oct. 12 SpeakOut. My Bible says the Lord is with us, not just 24 hours a day after we accept him as our personal savior, but he's with us from the day we're born until the day we die, 24 hours a day. God was around. Look at the way things have turned around, with the President praying on TV and stuff. It's just an opportunity for America to get their eyes open. God's presence was felt on Sept. 11. May the Lord bless you and I hope to see you in church Sunday.

I would like to respond to the Oct. 12 SpeakOut article, "Where was God?" I would like to draw the caller's attention to Daniel 3:15-18, especially verses 17 and 18: "If it be so, our God, whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up." We're not promised of being delivered from the fiery furnaces of life. Christians are not promised that. But ever since the fall of mankind from Adam and Eve, the Bible says it is appointed to man once to die, and then the judgment. Anybody who called on the name of the Lord at the World Trade Center, I believe God and his son Jesus were with them. However, I don't believe in atheists. If you're an atheist when you're drawing your last breath in this life, tell me then that you don't believe in God. Then I'll believe in an atheist.
