Your view: Work appreciated

On July 23 at 5:15 p.m., a severe thunderstorm came through Stoddard County and lightning struck the transformer in front of our house.

I called Karen Griffin at her home. Karen is one of the nicest ladies who works for the Bloomfield SEMO office. I called her home because I could not get through to the office in Sikeston. I called several times and the phone was always busy.

Karen told me the men at Bloomfield had already been called out since there were several trees and lines down and electricity was out in several places. Finally, at 8:15 p.m., I got through to a nice lady at the Sikeston office. She contacted Tom James and Willis Eubanks in their truck by radio, who came and installed a new transformer. Just as they were finished and getting into their truck to leave, my neighbor, Imogene Ray, came running out of her house saying the plug-in was on fire. Tom and Willis ran into the house, put out the fire and fixed the problem.

If they had not been there, the damage to their house would have been severe. Also, my husband, Estol Lowe is on oxygen and needs air conditioning to breathe. We just wanted to give our thanks to these two wonderful employees for their help and say how much we appreciate having people like them in the Bloomfield community. They went above and beyond their duties and we appreciate them very much.
